![]() In July 2024, we biked 610 miles along the EuroVelo 7 bike route. First from Copenhagen to Berlin, then Copenhagen to Gothenburg. The first segment I did with my college friend Dennis, and the second segment was with my cousin Jen. I flew from SFO with my bike in a box. Dennis and Jen rented their bikes from onewaybiketours. Copenhagen to Berlin with Dennis: The bike trails in Copenhagen are pristine, perfectly paved paths segregated from cars, with street lights, and wild flowers just about the entire route. The landscape is littered with old thatch roofed farm houses. A 2 hour ferry ride takes you from Denmark to Germany, highly recommend the buffet for the journey, it was epic. Once in Germany, the trails took us through forests, canopy tree lined trails and fields of sunflowers. So many great cafes along the route. We had a few days to see Berlin before I started segment two. Copenhagen to Gothenburg with cousin Jen: We picked up Jens rental bike, and my bike at Cafe Parforce, and it was an epic day biking through an 11k acre royal hunting grounds, seeing the worlds oldest (441 years old) amusement park, and taking the ferry from Denmark to Sweden. Once in Sweden, we followed the Kattegattleden route, basically the highway 1 of Sweden. We didn't spend much time planning ahead, we just booked our first and last night hotel stay by the Copenhagen airport, and this is where I stored my bike box during our bike tour. This also meant that each day was a surprise in terms of what we would see, we really had no idea what was around the corner. The bike trails do a good job routing you past churches and castles, and when we chat with people at bike shops and cafes, they are always eager to tell give us advice on where to go. We did the Copenhagen to Berlin route traveling southbound, and I was initially worried about the northerly wind being an issue. The bike trails are quite protected by forest and trees, wind was never an issue. I've added links to the hotels, restaurants and castles we enjoyed; as well as more pictures, videos, and links to our Strava routes for each day. Links for the daily blog are on the left. |
