July 12, 2024EuroVelo 7 - Day 4 Had an amazing breakfast at our farmhouse hotel. They had 11 different local cheeses, so I took a small sample of each. By the time we finished breakfast it was 9:20, and we had bike 20 miles to catch our 11am ferry. We were cranking it! We only averaged about 12.5 mph, but Google map routed us on single track through the forest, through mud, sand and gravel. We made it to the ferry just as it started to board. The ferry ride was 2 hours, we opted for the all you can eat buffet, and we stayed for the whole 2 hours. It felt amazing sitting in the AC and having all the amazing food and drinks up for grabs. The ferry is a Rotor ship, it uses a tall spinning drum which behaves like a sail, so it uses wind power to help propel the ship. We're in Germany now! Bike paths in Germany are not silky smooth like they were in Denmark, but there are a ton more cities, restaurants, shops, and hotels. Our hotel in Güstrow Hotel am Schlosspark is great, $133/night for 4 beds and a great cross breeze for drying our clothes. Had a great meal at the hotel's restaurant Wallenstein too, I had the beef cheek, and we were wondering if it's part of the face, or part of the butt? The hotel has a key access bunker for bikes, and metal lockers for locking and charging e-bike batteries overnight. |
