July 13, 2024EuroVelo 7 - Day 5 Today the pannier on Dennis's rental bike started to fall apart. One mount broke, and we used some straps to support it. Eventually the whole thing broke off and got sucked into the wheel. Somehow this caused a flat tire as well. We're getting swarmed my mosquitos and trying to change the tire as quickly as possible. The valve on the tube is one I've never seen before; there's Presta valve, or Schrader valve, this is not either of those. We got the tube changed, but took us a while to figure out how to convert the hand pump to work with this valve. The "Dunlop" valve has a shoulder on it that doesn't allow a Presta pump to fully seat. We could only get about 20 psi in. After changing the tube, and pumping it up, I think we figured out what happened. The pannier must have unscrewed the cap on the valve stem, and for this Dunlop valve, that lets out all the air. The ride today Gustrow to Waren has been my favorite segment so far. It's just miles and miles of tree canopy lined streets and forest trails and a couple cafe's in between. We got some desserts at Zum Reiterstübchen We stopped again at for lunch Gutshaus Linstow. Food was great, and a pretty cool vintage vibe inside the hotel. Waren is pretty lively, lots of water front restaurants, live music and a harbor full of yachts. We stayed the night at Seehotel Weit Meer, dinner at the restaurant was pretty good as well, especially after our long day of riding! |
