July 15, 2024EuroVelo 7 - Day 7 Feeling pretty much back to normal by morning. Fried eggs, potatoes and leftover steak for breakfast. Garmin was having problems with our route. At one point it added a 20 mile loop for no reason. We ended up at a dead end with barbed wire, another ended with a bridge with no trail. Trails today were 50% cobble stone, dirt or sand, pretty slow going. We biked all day, and every restaurant we passed or found near by on GPS was closed on Monday, some don't open till Friday. We asked the locals, and they reply, welcome to the German countryside! We snuck into a hotel to fill up our water bottles, and they had a honor system food pantry. The person mowing the lawn said if you know about it, then you know. So we bought some ice cream for lunch, pretty much our only option. We passed by some locks that let boats in and out of the lake. Biking was mostly through the German national forest, there are yellow signs with an owl to let you know you're in the Nature park. This pretty much means the bike trails will be dirt, gravel and sand! We try to avoid the yellow owl signs if given a choice! We found another 2 bedroom house for tonight, $163, Mühle Tornow am Wentowsee. It's an old timber frame house and feel like it has AC but it's just thick mud walls. It's part of a restaurant, and they opened the restaurant just for us, we were the only guests. The restaurant used to be a water powered mill, and the mill guts are still inside. Had an excellent dinner, Soljanka (veg soup w. pickles and sausage) and 4 cheese toast w. salad, and Creme Brulee. |
