Day 9 - Berlin

July 17, 2024

We've got a couple days in Berlin to sight-see, and I wanted to start looking for a shipping box for my bike. We stopped at the shop where Dennis needs to return his one-way rental bike.

The guy (Allan) who drives the bikes back to the Copenhagen shop was loading up bikes in his van. He said he's leaving in an hour, and I could throw my bike in for free, so we did that. This saves me having to take my bike apart, package it, carry the giant box and my panniers on the metro to the airport, re-assemble the bike at the airport at midnight... This really worked out great, I can just pick my bike up in Copenhagen when my cousin Jen picks up her rental bike. Jen and I are biking Copenhagen to Gothenburg in 2 days. My AirTags show my bike has already arrived at the shop in Copenhagen.

Dennis and I checked out the Checkpoint Charlie museum, one of my favorites in Berlin. We shared a crispy pork knuckle at the Hoffbrau House, luckily the waiter told us not to buy two. The water table is so low in Berlin, anytime construction projects start, they setup these huge purple pipes to pump out water. We stopped at one of the Ghost stations, Potsdamer Platz, which had to be walled off since the train line crossed in and out between East and West Berlin. Walked through the Memorial for the murdered Jews.
