Day 15 - Varberg to Gothenburg

Kattegattleden - Day 4

The first picture is of Jen sleeping in the amazing Swedish beds at Varbergs Kusthotell The bed is so soft, you can't even tell someone is laying in it. I took a picture of the mattress and pillow topper, hoping we can buy these in the USA. Another epic breakfast, and fun surprises along the route today

TJOLÖHOLM – A SWEDISH CASTLE IN TUDOR STYLE
This is the castle we toured, Tjolöholm Castle. Everything including the furniture is preserved from ~1904, though some items were antiques from before the house was built. It was pretty magical seeing everything basically as it was when it was last lived in. The craftsmanship and carpentry is top notch, and I love the art deco style! Definitely worth coming just to visit the castle.

The inscription carved above the fireplace in the office reads: "Seek the inglenook of ease", which is basically saying: Enjoy the cozy nooks and corner fireplace. One of the guides said this castle is very 'hygge'.

Hygge: taking time away from the daily rush to be together with people you care about; to relax and enjoy life's quieter pleasures

There was one room influenced by Morocco, considered an exotic destination of the time. The house was built with electricity, and they had an electronic bell system for the servants to be called. This is one of the few castles where we really get to see every room. There's even a dark room for developing film.

We saw many small cars towing really big heavy trailers. Can a Volvo wagon really tow a huge fishing boat and dual axle trailer?

We made it to Gothenburg!!!

223.4 miles in 4 days (55.85 mi/day), 13,835 calories burned! Our hotel tonight is Scandic Göteborg Central $121/night. We had a great dinner at the hotels roof top restaurant.
