2025 Swiss biking - day 2
43.8 miles; +1,473' / - 2,402'
Lucerne to Brienz

Aug 25, 2025
We biked from Lucerne to Giswil, then took the train from Giswil to Brunig (saving us 8.9 miles & 2,011'). From Brunig we biked to Brienz. There were amazing bike paths along the water front, one of my bucket list places to bike. We passed by Mt. Pilatus (worlds steepest cograil) which would make for a great day of biking as well. I have pictures of Pilatus and Swiss miniature which is also near by from a previous trip

While waiting for the train from Giswil up the hill to Brunig, we met an old chap who was also bike touring our same route, he was an inspiration. The ride from Brunig to Brienz was mostly downhill with great views along the 1,800' drop into the valley. We took a train from Brienz to Grindelwald where our hotel was for the night. There was an issue with the train, so they had bus service. We arrived at our hotel ( Hotel Central Wolter) where we have two nights. We got there at 9:25p, and managed to place a dinner order just before they closed down at 9:30p. The staff were super helpful, our dinner cooked while we checked in, and dinner was waiting for us when we returned. Tomorrow we take the bus to Grosse Scheidegg, and the bus station is just in front of the hotel.
